Gawai Dayak is the thanks giving festival that is celebrated by the Dayak Communities in the State of Sarawak in Boeneo Island after paddy harvesting season. The Dayak communities that still practising the old tradition will performe the gawai ritual to give thanks to their ancestor for giving them good harvesting for the year.
The Bidayuh community that still practice "adat gawea" will organised the gawea sowa festival. The Bidayuh from Bau, particularly the Bijagoi, they will celebrate this gawai in the spirit of the togethernest with the villagers and among their families. For this year only few Kampung in Jagoi area will performe the gawea sowa ritual. The rest will celebrate gawai as an ordinary festival which will not involved any form of ritual except going to special gawai mass celebtare by the church.
